On saying less
Why the strongest position statement is usually the shortest one that survives scrutiny.
Most organisations say too much when it matters most. A crisis statement drafted by committee accumulates qualifiers until it says nothing, and an annual letter written to please every reader persuades none of them.
The discipline is subtraction. Decide the one sentence you would be content to see quoted, then remove everything that dilutes it.
Restraint is not evasion. It is the confidence to let a clear claim stand on its own, and the judgement to know which claims can.
